Breakfast is Part of a Lifestyle
Since then, extremely diverse breakfast cultures have developed worldwide. Japanese eat Miso soup in the morning, often fresh fish. Canadians grab pancakes or waffles with maple syrup. Turks serve sheep’s cheese, olives, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, scrambled eggs, sesame rings. In France, breakfast is somewhat Spartan, as well as in Italy and Spain: it usually stays with a coffee and a piece of pastry, a croissant or a biscuit.
For many people, breakfast is now part of a lifestyle – and the breakfast industry is booming. Fast breakfast with croissant, muffin or donut and cereals, fried eggs, bacon contain too much fat and sugar with too little protein. You will feel satisfied briefly, at most for two hours until your metabolism had broken down the sugars.
The nutritionist recommends Breakfast with a higher protein content that will make you less hungry for several hours. A Bircher muesli is an ideal meal in the morning. Note however those ready-made mueslis are sugar bombs. Especially cereals for children contain too much sugar which sometimes takes up to 50 percent of the ingredients. Even fruit muesli with no artificial added sugar often includes more than 20 grams of sugar per 100 grams.
So here is our recommendation: And make your own Birchermuesli.
The classic recipe consists of oatmeal soaked overnight in water, which are mixed in the morning with lemon juice, milk, and a freshly grated apple. Due to the protein and carbohydrates in the oatmeal, which the body can break down slowly, this combination lasts for up to five hours. And of course, it is very healthy!
Also, make homemade sourdough bread! It is better digestible than commercial bread, plus you control all the ingredients.
And if you need some food on the go: how about a healthy breakfast smoothie?!!
